Bartram Trail High graduate Julian Suri birdied four of his first five holes and went on to post the low round of the day with a 65 on Sunday, finishing second in the Portugal Open, a European PGA Tour event at the Morgado Golf and Country Club in Portimao.
Suri started the day in a tie for sixth, seven shots behind Matt Wallace of England. Wallace shot 69 to stay safely ahead, and beat Suri by three shots at 21-under-par 271 on the par-73 course.
Suri, a St. Augustine resident who plays out of the Golf Club of South Hampton, earned $60,610 for the runner-up. He is a two-time Florida high school state champion and past Florida Times-Union First Coast player of the year and an All-ACC player at Duke.
Suri has conditional European PGA Tour status. He missed gaining full status by one shot at the final stage European Tour qualifying tournament last November. His previous best finish was a tie for 15th at the Australian PGA.
Suri won twice on the Swing Thought Tour last season.
