Garden Club’s tour of homes to showcase the Flagler era

This year, the theme for the annual Garden Club of St. Augustine’s Tour of Homes will be “Christmas in the Flagler Era.”

The event, planned for noon to 5 p.m. Dec. 3, will pay tribute to Henry Morrison Flagler.

Flagler, a man of culture and vision, transformed a sleepy coastal town into a winter resort for America’s wealthy in the late 1800s. His beautiful buildings, roadways and fountains still grace our city making St. Augustine a beautiful place to live and visit.

In the Tour of Homes, 10 garden circles, which comprise the St. Augustine Garden Club, will decorate six homes in the downtown historic district. Each home dates from the Flagler Period. The tour will include two houses on Marine Street and one each on St. George Street, Saragossa Street, Bridge Street and Riberia Street.

Each will be decorated by the garden club with floral arrangements and holiday greenery that reflect Flagler’s style and elegance.

During the tour, transportation starting from The City Parking Garage will be provided by Old Town Trolley. Trolley service will be available from noon to 4 p.m. Some walking will be required in the Historic District.

In addition, an Afternoon Tea and Holiday Boutique at the River House will feature handmade crafts and home-baked cookies by the Garden Club of St Augustine.
