Play inspires audience at Cathedral Basilica

Middle school students from Cathedral Parish School performed the play, “Passion Reflections,” April 7 at the Cathedral Basilica.

In the play, sixth-grade students represented the crowd present at the crucifixion of Jesus Christ by raising their voices and chanting “Hosanna.” Seventh-grade students represented the crowd calling for the crucifixion of Jesus.

Eighth-grade students portrayed those who were present at the crucifixion including Judas, Claudia Procula and Pontius Pilate, in addition to apostles, weeping women, the innkeeper and the baker.

The final cast members were Simon, who was pulled from the crowd to help carry the cross; the Centurian, who recognized Jesus as the Son of God; and Jesus’ mother, Mary.

By staging the performance, the students offered inspiration for members of the cathedral as they headed into the Holy Week.
