The local unit of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints hosted its sixth annual community-wide “Jesus Christ: The Reason for the Season” event Dec. 1–2.
The event featured hundreds of nativity displays from around the world and was attended by residents of Durbin, Julington Creek, Ponte Vedra Beach and Nocatee, primarily.
In addition to crèches (nativity scenes), the hall was decorated with ornaments and artwork depicting the birth, life and ministry of Jesus Christ. Live Christmas music and a live nativity, complete with real animals, were also part of the Friday and Saturday celebration of the Christmas season.
The annual, family-centered outreach, held at the Latter-day Saints Chapel on County Road 210, focuses on the universal message of “peace on earth, good will to men.”
“The community response has been most positive and those attending the event has grown every year,” said David Bennion, a representative of the church.
