Empty Stocking Fund: Veteran hopes to brighten granddaughter’s Christmas

A local veteran who has fallen on hard times wishes he could make a very special Christmas for his young granddaughter this year.

Now in his late 50s, the decorated soldier said he has become unemployed and homeless over the last year.

“I provided all my life for my family and now find myself in a bad way, and alone,” the St. Johns County man explained in his application to the Empty Stocking Fund.

“I will get through this with God’s help,” he added.

Until then, the veteran is looking for help this holiday season.

“My five-year-old granddaughter is my only light and I would like to give her a good Christmas,” he wrote.

This man’s struggle is just an example of the many people in St. Johns County who would be grateful for the help you can provide with your gift to the Empty Stocking Fund, The St. Augustine Record’s annual fund drive to provide holiday assistance for local people who need extra help this year. Supported by donors and started in the 1980s, the Empty Stocking Fund is a registered 501(c)(3) organization. Donors can be sure every cent will go directly to helping local families because The Record pays all the cost of administering the fund. Your tax-deductible contribution can be:
