LAW & ORDER: Former student hit by car near Nease High School

Kristian Edward Mensching, 17, was airlifted to UF Health in Jacksonville in serious condition after being hit by a vehicle near Nease High School on Monday afternoon.

A spokesman for the St. Johns County Fire Rescue said the juvenile was struck around 1:45 p.m. as he skateboarded along Ray Road.

According to a release by the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, Mensching did not lose consciousness as he was transported for medical care. The driver of the vehicle as well as witnesses said the teenager “never stopped to clear traffic.” The vehicle was traveling at approximately 25 mph at the time of the accident, witnesses told police.

Mensching is a former Nease student but did not attend this year.
