Sheriff’s Office releases name of man found dead Tuesday morning

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office issued a release Wednesday that says the man found dead Tuesday morning at a home on Los Robles Avenue has been identified as James Henry Weaver, 56, of St. Augustine.

Weaver was found dead after a check on welfare call for service was made.

Following an autopsy performed earlier Wednesday morning, the 23rd District Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the chest, and the manner of death as a homicide.

Investigators learned Tuesday that Weaver had moved into the residence with another man, Steven Michael Canard, some time ago, according to the release.

Canard was killed the previous night during a traffic crash on State Road 207 after a motorcyclist struck his vehicle while traveling at a high rate of speed. Detectives took possession of Canard’s crashed vehicle Tuesday to examine the car in a joint effort between the Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Highway Patrol crash investigation team.

To date, the Sheriff’s Office has not said what, if any, connection there is between the death of Canard and that of Weaver.
