UPDATE: Body found floating in pond Tuesday night identified

A body that St. Johns County sheriff’s deputies found floating in a pond on Tuesday evening has been identified as a 43-year-old New Port Richey man who was reported as missing last week.

The District 23 Medical Examiner’s Office identified the body as that of Brian Matthew White after a Wednesday morning autopsy, the Sheriff’s Office said in news release.

White’s body was found in a pond on the property of an old KOA campground off of Sandy Creek Parkway southeast of the County Road 210 and Interstate 95 interchange.

Sheriff’s Office detectives with the Major Crimes Unit had been looking for White after family members reported that they had not seen or heard from him since late January. His mother, who lives in New Port Richey, was expecting him to return to her home after a visit with family in Jacksonville, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release last week.

He was last seen in surveillance footage from a St. Augustine-area convenience store, that release said.

Detectives had begun looking for White along C.R. 210 Tuesday after cellphone records put him in the area and his mother’s Chevrolet Traverse was found abandoned in the parking lot of a nearby industrial park, the Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.

The autopsy found no obvious signs of foul play on the body, the news release said. Final results are pending additional toxicology testing.

Detectives are continuing their investigation.
