The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office announced that the Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed the body found Wednesday near Vilano Beach is that of Skyler Christian Taylor.
Taylor, 20, of Jacksonville, was reported missing Sunday after he disappeared while swimming in the ocean. The Sheriff’s Office said eyewitnesses saw him being pulled offshore in rough water conditions.
The cause of death has been ruled an accidental drowning. The Medical Examiner’s final report is pending toxicology results.
St. Johns Fire Rescue used boats and a helicopter to search for Taylor on Sunday but could not locate him. The search began about 5:50 p.m. after authorities received a report of two swimmers in distress near the north inlet jetty on Porpoise Point.
When they arrived, rescue personnel were told one swimmer had made it back to shore. The second swimmer was last seen about 150 yards offshore near the North Shoal, according to St. Johns Fire Rescue officials.
