St. Augustine hotel The Collector voted into top 10 in USA Today travel awards

Downtown St. Augustine’s The Collector Luxury Inn & Gardens made the list of the Best New Hotels in USA TODAY’s 10Best Readers’ Choice travel award contest.

The results were announced Friday.

According to the USA Today website, a panel of experts joined 10Best editors to pick the initial nominees, and the top 10 winners were determined by popular vote. Experts Marla Cimini (USA TODAY), Eric Grossman, Gerrish Lopez and Christopher Parr (Pursuitist) were chosen “based on their knowledge and experience of American travel.”

The Collector was voted No. 7 overall. In describing the hotel, the website says it “blends luxury amenities with a sense of history through a collection of museum-worthy antiques, centuries-old brick courtyard and 30 individually appointed rooms featuring coquina walls, refurbished hardwood floors and fireplaces.”

The small hotel was extensively renovated on what used to be the site of the Dow Museum of Historic Houses.

The No. 1 selection was the Wm. Mulherin’s Sons boutique hotel in Philadelphia.
