GREENWOOD, S.C. – Lander opened on a 13-2 run and never looked back in a 73-58 win over Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference East Division men’s basketball game Wednesday night.
Flagler (6-6, 1-5) was held to its lowest shooting percentage of the season at 33.9 percent from the field. After Jeffercy Jean gave the Saints a 2-0 lead, Lander (5-9, 2-3) rattled off 13 straight points. The Saints never got closer than five the rest of the way.
Vaughn McCall led Flagler with 14 points, while Arnas Dautartas added 11 points and seven rebounds in just his second game with the Saints. Jean added 10 points and a game-high eight rebounds.
JR Washington scored 11 of his 19 points in the second half for the Bearcats. Rahu Purdie added 17 points and Chris Tate had 16.
Flagler hosts Montevallo at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
GREENWOOD, S.C. – Flagler College’s Maggie Flynn tied her career high with 22 points and Alex Alford dished out a career-high 10 assists, but the Saints fell to 0-6 in the Peach Belt Conference with a 97-75 loss at Lander.
Breshay Johnson led six Lander players in double figures with 24 points as the Bearcats (10-3, 4-1) won their fourth game in a row. Johnson made 12 of 16 shots from the field and added nine rebounds and seven assists.
Tiffany Hodge added 18 points and seven rebounds for the Saints (2-11), while Bri Roberts contributed 12 points and six rebounds and Kierra Crane scored 11 points and had five assists. Flagler shot a season-best 51.8 percent (29 for 56) from the field, but Lander was even hotter at 54.8 percent (40 for 73).
Flynn’s basket with 7:15 left in the third quarter pulled the Saints to within 54-52, but that’s as close as they would get as Johnson scored the next four baskets.
Lander’s Zuzana Talackova and Jessica Harris each added 17 points coming off of the bench. Harris tallied seven assists. Destinee Langford added 15 points, while Ty’Hesha Reynolds had 12 points and eight assists and Mylea McKenith recorded 10 points.
Flagler returns home Saturday in a 1:30 p.m. game against Montevallo.
Flagler College opened the season with a 5-1 exhibition loss at UCF. Flagler’s Felicitas Runkel defeated Nicole Jimenez 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 singles.
