Captain Hunt scores winner as Icemen shut out Stingrays

Turning point: Team captain Garet Hunt scored the game-winner in the first period as the Icemen downed the South Carolina Stingrays 1-0 at Veteran Memorial Arena Thursday.

Three stars: 1. Austin Lotz, Jacksonville (28 saves, penalty shot save); 2. Hunt, Jacksonville (one goal); 3. Dajon Mingo, Jacksonville (one assist).

Penalty box: Goaltender Lotz came to the rescue in the first period, denying a penalty shot by South Carolina’s Steven Whitney while the score was still 0-0.

Around the rink: Jacksonville won despite taking a season-low 10 shots on the night. … Defensemen Mingo and Christopher Dienes recorded the assists on Hunt’s goal. … Jacksonville beat the Stingrays for just the second time this season. … Leading scorer Elgin Pearce did not play for the Icemen.
