Aminu returns with double-double as UNF tops Stetson

Wajid Aminu marked his return to the University of North Florida lineup with a double-double, leading the Ospreys to a 73-65 victory over Stetson Saturday in DeLand.

The sophomore forward, who hadn’t played since sustaining an ankle injury in the Jan. 6 Atlantic Sun Conference opener against Jacksonville University, scored 11 points and 12 rebounds for UNF (10-14, 4-3).

Ivan Gandia-Rosa led UNF with 15 points, and Noah Horchler pulled down 16 rebounds.

Aminu’s return made an impact on defense - the Ospreys held an NCAA opponent under 70 points for the first time all year - and on offense, where UNF overcame a size disadvantage to outscore Stetson in the paint.

That enabled the Ospreys to overcome an uncharacteristic shaky shooting day from outside, with UNF sinking just 5 of 23 shots (22 percent) from 3-point range.

Divine Myles scored 18 points to lead the Hatters (10-14, 2-5), who have lost five straight.

The Ospreys next play Monday at Florida Gulf Coast, beginning the second half of the ASUN schedule.
