Local Roundup: Creekside’s Plummer surpasses 1,000 career points in win

CHRISTINA.KELSO@STAUGUSTINE.COM Creekside’s J’Michael Plummer scored 20 points Saturday, including a 3-pointer in the third quarter that gave him 1,000 for his career.

J’Michael Plummer scored a game-high 20 points and achieved a career milestone, and Creekside (12-2) outscored Tampa Plant (9-2) 17-5 in the fourth quarter Saturday to knock off the Panthers. Plummer reached 1,000 points in his varsity career on a 3-pointer in the third quarter. The senior point guard hit 5 of 6 free throws in the fourth quarter and finished the game with 1,007 career points. Noah Lippy added 11 points, including eight in the fourth quarter. Michael Phillips chipped in with nine points for the Knights.

Less than 24 hours after nationally ranked Winter Haven snapped Nease’s 10-game winning streak, the Panthers started a new streak Saturday with a comfortable win over Orlando Lake Nona in the Rob Moramarco Challenge at Flagler Palm Coast High School. The Panthers (13-3) were able to empty their bench in the victory. “It was tough for the girls to come back after such a physical and emotional loss (60-56 in overtime Friday),” Nease coach Sherri Anthony said. “I was proud of them.” Peyton Carter led Nease with 21 points Saturday, while Camille Hobby produced a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds and guard Kiya Turner contributed 11 points, six rebounds and seven assists. Nease returns to district play Tuesday with a 7:30 p.m. home game against St. Augustine.

Lander University handed Flagler College its first Peach Belt Conference loss of the season and took over first place in the conference with a home victory Saturday in Greenwood, South Carolina. Tiffany Hodge scored a career-high 22 points for the Saints (7-3, 5-1). The senior post player hit 10 of 14 field goals. Destinee Langford and Chelsea Mitchell scored 15 points apiece, and Breshay Johnson added 14 for the Bearcats (11-2, 6-1). Lander broke a 58-all tie with an 8-0 spurt midway through the fourth quarter. The Saints got within two (70-68) with 10 seconds remaining, but couldn’t score the game-tying basket.

Tatiyana Rock added 13 points for Flagler, while Bri Roberts scored 10 points, Alex Alford tallied 10 assists and Tabitha Odabe made her first start and grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked three shots. Flagler will host

USC Aiken at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Flagler College rallied from a 24-point deficit to tie the score with 2:02 left, but host Lander scored the final six points, all on free throws, to defeat the Saints in Greenwood, South Carolina. Damerit Brown scored 15 of his game-high 25 points in the second half, while Vaughn McCall scored 13 of his 20 after halftime for the Saints, who dropped to 4-6, 1-5 in the Peach Belt.

Jeffercy Jean who tied the score at 67 with a three-point play, added 12 points, five rebounds and five assists for the Saints. McCall led Flagler with eight rebounds, a career high. Jordan Dingle led four Bearcats (6-7, 2-5) in double figures with 17 points. Flagler will host USC Aiken at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
