Local roundup: Ponte Vedra baseball team snaps 3-game losing streak

Kevin Faulkner, Dom Barardi and Quinton Brehm combined on a one-hitter as Ponte Vedra snapped a three-game losing streak with a win over Bradenton IMG’s Blue Team (2-8) on Wednesday at the Port Orange Spruce Creek Spring Break Tournament. The Sharks (6-4) finished the tournament with one win in three games. Ponte Vedra took a 3-0 lead in the second without a hit — three walks, two hit batters and a wild pitch. John Brown had two of the Sharks’ five hits. Ponte Vedra hosts Menendez in a District 4-6A game on March 23.

Leighton Alley scattered four hits in five innings, walking four and striking out four, to pick up the win in Nease’s victory at Oviedo (5-4). Cody Sheider closed the game with two hitless innings. Alley and Collin Garner each had two hits and two RBIs for the Panthers (5-3). Alley tied the score at 1-1 with a run-scoring double in the second. The senior then scored form third on a grounder to the pitcher to put Nease up for good. The Panthers scored four runs in the top of the fifth. Nease visits Clay at 7 tonight.
