Flagler ace Maiocco improves to 6-1 as Saints down Montevallo 4-1

Michael Maiocco improved to 6-1, allowing one run in eight innings, and Luke Cooksey picked up his fifth save as Flagler College defeated Montevallo in a Peach Belt Conference game Friday night at Drysdale Field. The Saints improved to 18-8, 6-1 in the conference, while Montevallo fell to 12-13, 1-6.

Maiocco scattered seven hits, struck out five and walked one batter. Cooksey pitched a perfect ninth, striking out two batters. Cole Ondrejka and Igor Baez each went 2 for 4 for the Saints. Ondrejka hit a double and drove in two runs. Baez scored a run. The teams will play again at 2 p.m. today for Law Enforcement Day. They will complete the series at noon Sunday.


FACA All-Star games

Three St. Johns County players are scheduled to play in the Florida Athletic Coaches Association Girls and Boys Basketball All-Star Games today at Orange Park High School. Creekside’s Taylor Allen is on the North roster for the girls game, which is scheduled to tip off at 11 a.m., while St. Augustine’s Ryan Burkhardt and Creekside’s Oratius Williams are on the North roster for the boys game, which will follow the girls.
