Ponte Vedra won its 45th straight district win Thursday night, 25-14, 20-25, 25-22, 25-18 at Menendez to open District 5-6A play. Offensively, the Sharks were led by Jordan Gregg’s 12 kills and Gabby Keller’s nine kills. Keller added five aces for the Sharks (3-0, 1-0). Senior setter Savannah Fowler led Ponte Vedra with 34 assists and 14 digs. Menendez (2-2, 1-1) was led by Emily Ward’s 16 kills and 13 digs. Freshman setter Ashlyn Banton produced a double-double with 26 assists and 13 digs, while her older sister Marley also had a double-double with 10 kills and 18 digs.

St. Augustine 3

Christ’s Church 0

The Yellow Jackets improved to 4-1 after topping Christ’s Church 25-12, 25-17, 27-25 at home. Junior setter Madison Canova led St. Augustine with 33 assists, 12 digs and seven aces. Alexandra Petrilli recorded 20 kills and 13 digs. St. Augustine will host Atlantic Coast at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and then face Nease on Sept. 7.

In what may be a Region 1-8A playoff preview, the Senators pulled out a 25-11, 18-25, 18-25, 25-20, 15-13 win at home over Bartram Trail (3-1) on Thursday night. Bartram Trail’s Taylor Smith produced 11 kills, while Bears middle blocker Alexia Kuehl had 12 kills and four blocks. Alex Murphy had 21 assists and Lexie Ahren added 22 digs. Fletcher (3-1) was led by Asimi Mulalic’s 16 kills. Senators libero Anna Gartner provided a match-high 30 digs.

Fleming Island 3

Creekside 1

Fleming Island defeated host Creekside 25-15, 13-25, 25-12, 25-19. Emily Charbonneau led the Golden Eagles (4-1) with 15 kills. Jessie Lary led Creekside (1-4) with seven kills and added 11 digs. Margaret Gupton led the Knights in digs with 12. Eva Mason had 13 assists for the Knights, who visit Bolles at 6:30 tonight.

Beacon of Hope 3

Beacon of Hope won its first match of the season. The hosts overcame a two-game deficit to win 19-25, 8-25, 25-23, 25-17, 18-16. Kayla Pinkney recorded nine kills, eight aces and two digs for the Eagles. Madison Smith provided three aces, while De’Aryl McDuffie produced two aces, two kills and a block. The Eagles (1-3) will travel to Temple Christian on Tuesday night.

Middleburg’s Cody Carroll was the medalist with a 2-under 34. Jason Duff carded a 37 to lead the Falcons. Also scoring for Menendez were: Hunter Boahn 39, Tristan Mihalich 41 and Daniel Rot 46.

St. Joseph senior Taylor Dickmann carded an even-par 36 to earn medalist honors at Royal St. Augustine. Sophomore Jenna Thompson carded St. Augustine’s lowest score with a 4-over 40. Her round included a 30-foot birdie putt at No. 12, a 374-yard, par-5. Kayla Thompson and Chad Taylor both shot 44 for the Flashes to help St. Joseph win its first match.


FSDB game postponed

The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind’s home game against Daytona Beach Halifax on Thursday night was postponed because of lightning. The teams have rescheduled the game for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Bartram Trail pulled off a home upset over the Sharks at the St. Johns Golf & Country Club. Elizabeth Kondal and Bella Thiede both shot 5-over 41 to lead the Bears to a one-stroke victory. Ponte Vedra’s Kayleigh Baker was the medalist with a 3-over 39.
