Local Roundup: St. Joseph girls basketball rolls to win over Providence

Freshman Jessamy Gaetanos scored a career-high 29 points as St. Joseph defeated Providence in a District 2-4A game Tuesday night. Kayla Mansell added 11 points and 14 rebounds, while Fabiana DeJuk scored nine points and Gabby Williams pulled down eight rebounds. The Flashes improved to 11-5, 4-1. They host Ponte Vedra at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Bartram Trail outscored host Ponte Vedra 19- 12 in the fourth quarter Monday to win for the 10th time its last 11 games. Xavier Hutchinson led the Bears (12-5) with 19 points. Ryan Colbert added 16 points. Bartram, coming off an upset win of Creekside on Friday, poured it on the second half Monday after trailing 32-29 at halftime. Jack Johnson led the Sharks with 17 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots. Ben Houser scored 16 with a pair of 3-pointers and Johnny Corlazzoli added 10 points. Ponte Vedra (8-9) went 8 of 8 from the foul line but couldn’t gain an advantage over the Bears, who hit 13 of 17 free throws.

Colin Robins scored 14 points, Luca Stauble scored 12 and Dequan Stanley added 11 for St. Augustine in a home win Monday night. The Yellow Jackets improved to 6-10, 4-3 in District 3-7A, while Middleburg fell to 0-16, 0-6. St. Augustine visits Nease at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

The Knights eliminated the Yellow Jackets in the District 4-4A tournament quarterfinals on Monday. Delaney Tauzel, Jenna Ortiz, Lauren, Vanessa Black and Avery McNelis scored for Creekside. The Knights (11-4-4) advanced to face Nease (17-2-1) in today’s tournament semifinal at 5:30 p.m. at Bartram Trail. Nease beat Creekside 4-1 in the regular season. Creekside eliminated Nease in extra time in last year’s district tournament semifinal.
