Q. I saw a small bird frequenting a frond on my sago palm. It would cling and hang upside down on the underside of the frond. What was it doing?

A. Go inspect that frond to see if it has scale insects on it. The bird was probably offering you some insect control while enjoying a tasty meal.

Q. I have a very small patch of grass in my yard. I use a string trimmer to mow it. Over time, the grass looks worse and worse. Is there some other way to mow it without needing a big mower?

A. The string trimmer does not offer any height control, so you are probably cutting the grass too short, thus scalping it. Consider using an old time push mower that is manually powered. There are some light enough to hang on hooks that can be screwed into a wall.
