Students move mountains (of mulch) for community service hours

By Sandra Williams

Cathedral Parish School students Gabby Williams and Christine Walsh, along with Christine’s mom, Patty, helped erode a mountain of tree-trimming mulch in Ron Parker Park earlier this month.

For volunteering at the garden, the students earned community service hours toward their eighth grade graduation requirement.

In about two hours one Saturday afternoon, they moved 50 wheelbarrows to mulch about a sixth of the St. Augustine Beach Community Garden.

“It was a lot of fun,” Williams said.

“Yea,” Walsh added. “Let us know when you want us to come again.”
