Churches plan summer religion-based activities for children

St. Johns County churches host summer programs to make the most of students’ free time while school is out.

Vacation Bible school and other programs offer a week of Bible-centric music, games and activities for young children.

Anastasia Baptist Church will host SMACK: Summer Music and Arts Camp from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. June 26–30 at its Anastasia Island Campus, 1650 A1A South. SMACK is a weeklong music and arts camp for children who in the first through sixth grades. The cost is $85 and includes registration fee, camp T-shirt, music CD, daily snacks and supplies. “Maker Fun Factory” will be the theme for vacation Bible school at Shepherd of the Coast Lutheran Church, 101 Pine Lakes Parkway South, Palm Coast, Florida. Bible school will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. June 25–29 and is open to children ages 3 to 11. To register, call 386-446-2481 or go to

Memorial Lutheran Church will hold vacation Bible school from 9 a.m. to noon June 19-23. The theme this year is a GoFish Guys curriculum, “Victory.” Children ages 3 through 4th grade are welcome to the weeklong Bible school. Activities include an opening and closing daily pep rally, Bible study, snacks, games and crafts. Attendance is free, themed items will be available for purchase. To register, go to
