The Most Rev. Filipe J. Estévez, Bishop of the Diocese of St. Augustine, will celebrate the 4 p.m. Mass on Christmas Eve at St. Anastasia Catholic Church.
Estevez, who was born in Havana, Cuba, was ordained in 1970.
After extensive studies in spiritual theology, earning a doctorate from Gregorian University in Rome, Estevez served as rector of St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary in Boynton Beach, Florida, from 1980 to 1986. He was pastor of St. Agatha Parish in Miami for 14 years and spiritual director of St. Vincent de Paul from 2001 to 2003.
In 2010, he was appointed Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Miami.
On April 27, 2011, Pope Benedict XVI named Auxiliary Bishop Felipe J. Estévez the 10th Bishop of St. Augustine. He was installed on June 2, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jacksonville.
St. Anastasia Catholic Church Christmas and New Year’s Mass Schedule
Sunday, Dec. 24 Vigil of Christmas
4 p.m., Mass with Bishop Estevez and music by the Children’s Choristers
8 p.m. Mass with music by the Parish Chorale, which will also lead the singing of carols starting at 7:30 p.m.
Carols will also be sung before all Christmas Masses.
Memorial luminaries will be lit on the church grounds following the 4 p.m. Christmas Eve Mass and will remain burning until after the 8 p.m. Mass.
The regular weekend Mass schedule will include Masses at 4 p.m. on Saturdays, Dec. 23 and Dec. 30. Mass will also be celebrated at 8 and 10:30 a.m. on Sundays, Dec. 24 and Dec. 31.
