Hastings commissioner reappointed after voter registration issue

Hastings commissioners reappointed Kim Lewis-Felder, whose appointment had been in question after a resident revealed that she wasn’t a registered voter in the town.

The town charter requires that commissioners live in the town and be registered voters there.

Lewis-Felder told The Record previously that she didn’t know it would be an issue and wasn’t trying to hide anything. She also said that after she learned of the issue, she updated her voter registration. She had already been living in the town, but her voter registration was tied to Flagler County.

Town Attorney Michael McCabe, who said he planned to investigate the issue, told the commission at the meeting that Lewis-Felder had provided proof of her updated voter registration, according to meeting minutes.

The Town Commission unanimously approved the reappointment.

McCabe could not be reached for comment.

For some reason commissioners are always appointed not elected in Hastings. No notice to the public. None of the five commissioners were elected.
