Handgun, AR-15 stolen from unlocked truck in St. Augustine Beach

A St. Augustine Beach man reported that a handgun and semi-automatic rifle were stolen from his unlocked truck sometime Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.

According to a report from the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, the 26-year-old man told a responding deputy that his mother noticed the door to his truck, which was parked in the driveway of their home in the 100 block of Southwind Circle, was ajar Wednesday morning.

When the man went outside to check on the vehicle, he noticed that a Taurus .380 handgun and a “custom built AR-15” were missing, the report says.

The man told the deputy that he had accidentally left the truck unlocked overnight.

The deputy noted that no neighboring homes appeared to have surveillance systems and that one other car in the neighborhood had been burglarized.

That report indicates only loose change appeared to have been taken.

.380 high powered , AR 15 !!! You have no knowledge of weaponry!!!!. This clown does need to have consequences for leaving firearms unsecured but not jail. You can't incarcerate every  stupid person !! In fact, you might want to think before you write since you just wrote some really stupid stuff!!

The bottom line, two more guns on the street.  If they ever get traced back to a crime he should be held responsible ($$$).

OK JIM BOB, thank you for the lesson on " weaponry "  !

YOU DA MAN JIM BOB when it comes to  " weaponry "  !

Jim Bob, before you answer, ARE YOU WEARING YOUR CAMOUFLAGE OUTFIT ?

NOW JIM BOB, aka Super Swamp-Billy, what should the PUNISHMENT BE FOR SOMEONE SO STUPID THEY DID NOT SECURE TWO"  KILLING MACHINES " ?

So Jim Bob, two " KILLING MACHINES "  are on the Streets of St Johns County and or the Streets of OUR STATE or COUNTRY, WHAT SHOULD THE CONSEQUENCES BE ?

Stupid move? Yes, but "lock him up"?

What law did he break?
Please give me the stature. They were available on line.

As a gun owner it is YOUR responsibility to make sure you LOCK them up. You don't accidentally leave guns in your car and forget to lock it...if you are not responsible enough to lock your car, you are not responsible enough to own them. As a gun owner, I am appalled by this story. This young man is one of the reasons we get a bad rap. Yes, he should be given some sort of hefty fine for this and if he has a concealed carry permit it should be taken away. It's not a game.

If a Person is KILLED with his alleged " stolen " Firearms,
Could this Genius be held held partially and legally to blame ?
Any Attorney like to answer this ?

No. He cannot. Maybe a civil suit but unlikely to win.

So if you left your car unlocked and there was a bottle of jack in the back seat someone went in your car drank the jack, he steals your car because you left the keys on the seat.  he drives away and as drunk as he is he kills people with your car, you should go to jail also?  You people are maroons, as Bugs would say.  Jason you can't talk to brain dead.

Guns don't steal people.  People steal guns.  The days when you could leave your doors, windows and vehicles unlocked are long gone.  If someone's family member gets killed or hurt from one of these guns, what are the chances of this owner getting sued for damages?  This is beyond careless.
