Suspect sought in afternoon bank robbery

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in finding a man that authorities say robbed a bank on Tuesday afternoon.

Around 3:15 p.m. the man entered the TD Bank at U.S. 1 and Lewis Point Road and “approached the teller and demanded money,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

“The suspect implied that he had a weapon” and was given an “undisclosed amount of cash” before he fled on foot, the release said.

The man is described in the release only as a light-skinned black male with facial hair. He was last seen wearing sunglasses, a ball cap, a blue hooded sweatshirt and jeans.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Major Crimes Detective Mark Kapelka at 209-3987 or by email at

Those who wish to remain anonymous and possibly be eligible for a cash reward can call Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida at 888-277-8477.
