Bartram Trail topped Gainesville 25-20, 25-22 in the finals of the Bolles Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Jacksonville.
The win came less than 24 hours after Gainesville beat the Bears in pool play. The Bears (12-3) beat Fletcher 23-25, 25-21, 15-10 in the semifinals. Kendall Sheffer, middle blocker Alexia Kuehl and libero Lexie Ahren were named to the All-Tournament team.
Bartram Trail will host Gainesville Buchholz on Monday afternoon at 4:30.
Openshaw wins second cross country meet of season
Creekside sophomore Claire Openshaw cruised to a 13 second victory at the Alligator Lake Invitational on Saturday morning in Lake City. Openshaw finished with a time of 18 minutes, 51.7 seconds, which nearly two seconds faster than her time at last year’s Region 1-3A meet that was contested on the same course.
Openshaw has competed in three meets this season and finished no worse than second in each. She won the Spikes and Spurs Classic in August with a season-best time of 18:47.90.
Ponte Vedra senior Claire Moritz was sixth with a time of 19:39.5.
Bolles won girls team meet with a score of 78. The Bulldogs were followed by Tallahassee Chiles (81 points), McIntosh (Ga.) with 97 points and Creekside in fourth with 101 points. Ponte Vedra was sixth with 152 points. St. Joseph was tenth with 330 points and St. Augustine was 18th out of 24 schools with 486 points.
On the boys side, St. Joseph’s Sean Snyder (sixth) and Creekside’s Matt Ortiz (eighth) both produced top 1- finishes.
Miami Belen Jesuit’s Joshua Collins won the race with a time of 16:13. Snyder was the top finisher from St. Johns County with a time of 16:47.8. Ortiz finished in 17:01.4 and St. Augustine’s Parker Woodruff was 11th with a time of 17:14.7.
Belen Jesuit won the team competition with 56 points. Creekside was fifth with 170 points and Ponte Vedra was sixth with 200 points. St. Augustine was ninth with 319 points, while St. Joseph was 11th with 331 points.
