Creekside jumped out to a 20-2 first quarter lead and cruised to a 69-41 victory at Ponte Vedra on Wednesday night. The Sharks, playing their first game of the season, improved in the second quarter but went into halftime trailing 43-19. The fourth quarter was played with a running clock. J’Michael Plummer led the Knights (4-0) with 18 points (14 in the second quarter), five assists and four steals. Caleb Townsend scored 13, Oratius Williams added 12 points and DJ Dumas had 12 points and 11 rebounds. Jack Shannon scored eight points for the Sharks, who were without leading scorer JD Pirris, who is still with the football team. In a preliminary contest to Friday’s Class 5A state football semifinal, Ponte Vedra will host Clay at 7:30 tonight. Creekside will play at Fleming Island at 7 p.m. Monday.
gainesville St. Francis 76
Yahir Rodriguez scored 23 points for the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind in a 76-49 season-opening loss to Gainesville St. Francis on Wednesday night at FSDB’s Settles Gym. Anthony Wallaced added 11 points for the Dragons, who connected on 10 3-pointers. St. Francis (2-2) went 22-6 last season. FSDB hosts Pierson Taylor on Dec. 7.

Beacon of Hope 31
De’Aryl McDuffie had a double-double in Beacon of Hope’s season opener, but the Eagles lost on the road, 52-31, at Eagle’s View on Wednesday. McDuffie finished with 21 points, including three 3-pointers, 11 steals and six rebounds. Kayla Pinkney just missed a triple-double with nine points, 15 rebounds and nine steals. Ashley Hamilton played well on the defensive end, producing six rebounds, four steals and a block. The Eagles will travel to Jacksonville to play Harvest Community on Monday.

For the second time this week, five different Bears found the back of the net en route to Wednesday’s comprehensive victory. Allison Felts, Ashlyn Kane and Nicole Wynn scored two goals apiece. Natalie Roarke and Logan Henley added the finishing touches in the contest. Bartram Trail (4-2) will host Fletcher in the final round of group play in the North Florida Soccer Showcase on Tuesday night.
The Falcons scored five second-half goals to overwhelm Paxon on Tuesday night. Midfielder Emma Voigt led the way with three goals and assisting a fourth. Shelby Brim scored twice while Allie McMandon, Izzy Sadowsky and Lauren Kelly all found the back of the net. Menendez (5-2) will not play again until Dec. 8 when it travels to face Ridgeview in a District 4-3A contest.
Menendez picked up another win in District 4-3A on Wednesday night. Justin Lawshe opened the scoring on an assist from Dan Oliveros. Junior midfielder Estin Thiele scored two goals, including a long-range strike late in the game to seal the win.
