Preston Staples throws for four TDs as Nease rolls past White




Star of the game: Junior QB Preston Staples returned from injury to lead the Panthers to a District 4-6A win, throwing for 230 yards and four TD passes. Staples added a 1-yard plunge late in the second quarter.

Turning point: Nease (3-3, 1-0 District 4-6A) recovered an onside kick on the first play of the game, with kicker Collin Hartley recovering the ball. Five plays later, Staples hooked up on a TD pass with WR Ashton Wood.

Fast facts: The Panthers rolled up 183 yards in the first quarter against host White (3-4, 1-1 District 4-6A), 90 on the ground and 93 in the air. … Nease senior RB Jareem Westcott had 27 carries for 210 yards and a third-quarter TD. … Despite a slow start, White only trailed by one score after the first quarter thanks to Isaiah Flowers’ 93-yard kickoff return. … The Commanders picked up their lone offensive TD when backup QB Tim Clarke threw 25 yards to Zorian Stanton. … Nease also blocked a punt.
