Golf roundup: Ye rallies on back nine to win Annika Invitational

Lei Ye of China played the back nine of the World Golf Village Slammer & Squire Course at 3-under with no bogeys on Monday and won the 10th annual American Junior Golf Association Annika Invitational at 2-under-par 214.

Ye birdied Nos. 12, 15 and 16 and and defeated Lucy Li (72) of Redwood Shores, California by two shots.

Mathilde Claisse of France, who was the 18- and 36-hole leader, shot 77 and fell to third at 1-over.

It was an uphill climb for Jack Comstock after the third hole of the JAGA First Coast Amateur on Monday at Hidden Hills in Jacksonville. The problem was, Cole Bradley refused to buckle.

Comstock, a University of North Florida junior, bounced back from a quadruple-bogey 8 at the par-4 third hole to birdie three of his last five — capped by short birdie putts at Nos. 17 and 18 — but his sprint to the end of another frigid day of golf left him one shot shy of Bradley, a Purdue freshman, who won the second edition of the tournament at 4-over-par 220.

Both Bradley and Comstock shot 73 in the final round. Jonathan Keppler (73) of Florida State played his last seven holes bogey-free, with one birdie, to tie Comstock for second at 5-over. Bradley is the son of Purdue golf coach Rob Bradley, a former UNF assistant.

Comstock, who began the day one behind Bradley, hit two tee shots out-of-bounds on the right at No. 3, and did well to limit his damage to a quad. He put his fifth shot in the fairway, was a bit short of the green and chipped to within tap-in range. He then proved to have a short memory. Comstock birdied the par-5 fourth on a two-putt from 20 feet and didn’t make another bogey the rest of the day, playing his last 15 holes at 4-under.
