Thursday game preview: Daytona Beach Halifax at FSDB

Kickoff: 7 p.m.

Record: Daytona Beach Halifax 0-1, Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind 0-1

Last game: Pierson Taylor defeated Halifax 43-6; Gainesville Oak Hall shut out FSDB 52-0.

Last year: Halifax, 40, FSDB 12

Players to watch: Halifax — In last week’s home loss, Toure Mack rushed for 57 yards on three carries, caught a pass for 6 yards and returned five kickoffs for 140 yards (28.0 yards per return). FSDB — Defensive end Alex Aldridge led the Dragons with nine tackles and a quarterback hurry.

Game info: This is FSDB’s home opener. The Dragons played Monday at Oak Hall in a game that was postponed from Aug. 24 due to severe weather. Both teams had tough games in their season-openers. While Halifax lost to a Class 3A team that went 6-3 last year, the Dragons traveled to a school that went 10-0 last season and won the North Florida Football Conference championship. This game will be a better measuring stick for FSDB to see how much it has improved since last season when the Dragons were 0-8. Halifax had only 2 yards passing last week on two completions — Mack’s catch and a reception for minus-4 yards.
