Creekside advances to wrestling duals state semifinals

KISSIMMEE | Creekside won its initial match at the FHSAA’s inaugural state duals wrestling team tournament in convincing fashion Friday at Osceola High School.

The Knights defeated Tallahassee Linclon 41-27 to advance to today’s semifinal round.

Just a month after taking a 60-24 pounding from Lincoln in a pre-Christmas duals tournament at Gainesville Buchholz, the Knights (28-4) won nine matches against the Trojans,

“We were a little flat on Monday, so [Thursday] we played a little dodgeball. Did a little drilling. There’s no pressure,” Knights coach Rick Marabell said. “They made some adjustments against us, but I stuck with our game plan.”

Kai Pelleriti (106), CJ Sexton (120), Billy Shaw (160) and Saul Storey (285) had pins for the Knights, with majors for Luke Davis (113) and Jake Summers (132), and decisions for Jalen Hines (145), Brandon Dickman (182) and Trey Chesser (195).

If the Knights can win their Class 2A semifinal match at noon today, they will advance to the state championship at 6.

Two other Northeast Florida teams won Friday to advance to today’s semifinals.

Fleming Island defeated Winter Springs 67-3 in Class 3A and Clay beat Wakulla 49-15 in Class 1A.
